Govt to take action against workers who fled Romania
Friday, 18 July 2008
The government warned Thursday of stern legal action against the Bangladeshi workers who fled from their work places in Romania and their guarantors, reports UNB.
An Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry press release noted with concern that a number of Bangladeshi workers who recently went to Romania on employment fled away from their respective work places. This tarnished the country's goodwill and image.
Sending more Bangladeshi workers to Romania on employment has also come under threat due to such fleeing of workers from Romania to other European countries, it mentioned.
If such a trend continues, the Romanian authorities might send back all Bangladeshi workers at any moment, the release warned.
Informed of the matter, Foreign and Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury has expressed deep concern over the matter.
