Govt to take steps to stop school dropout: PM

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina Sunday said her government would take effective steps to stop dropout of students from schools, reports UNB.
She made the remark when Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Dhaka V Krishnamoorthy called on her at the PM's Office in the city.
During the meeting, they discussed various issues of bilateral interest and exchanged views on the elements and indicators of development.
Reiterating her government's strong commitment to eradicate poverty, the PM observed that education was one of the key elements for eliminating poverty.
As the high dropout rate of students mainly from the primary schools in Bangladesh came up for discussion, she said the government would take effective steps to stop the dropout.
High Commissioner Kris-hnamoorthy apprised Sheikh Hasina about the education system of Sri Lanka.
He expressed deep shock at the death of Army Officers and civilians in the February 25-26 Peelkhana carnage.
The envoy highly praised the PM for her wisdom and farsightedness in tackling the BDR crisis peacefully and quickly.
Sheikh Hasina and High Commissioner Krishnamoorthy expressed the hope that the existing friendly relationship between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka would be strengthened further in the coming days.
Prime Minister's Office Secretary Mollah Waheeduzzaman, PM's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Abdus Sobhan Golap and former Ambassador Ziauddin were present during the meeting.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina felicitated new Prime Minister of Malaysia Najib Razak on his assumption of office.
In a letter of felicitation on Sunday, Sheikh Hasina expressed the hope that the existing friendly relationship between Bangladesh and Malaysia would be strengthened further in the days to come.
"Bangladesh also expressed the hope that Malaysia's advancement towards development will be expedited more under the leadership of the new Prime Minister," she said.
The PM also wished him good health, happiness and long life and for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of the people of Malaysia.
