All 31-bed hospitals in the country are being renovated to turn those into 50-bed ones while the government has a plan to construct new 31 and 20 bed hospitals at upazila level as per popular demand.
Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr AFM Ruhal Haq said this while replying to questions and supplementary queries from the lawmakers in the House Monday, reports BSS.
He said the government has a plan to construct six new hospitals in the country. These are: 500-bed hospital at Khilgaon, Dhaka, 500-bed hospital at Kurmitola, Dhaka, 250-bed TB hospital at Shyamoli, Dhaka, 300-bed Neuroscience Institute in Dhaka, 100-bed Tropical Medicine Institute in Chittagong and 400-bed hospital in Mirpur, Dhaka.
Besides, one child hospital will be constructed in Dinajpur, a 20-bed Mother and Child Welfare Centre at Shariyatpur and a 20-bed hospital at Dirai in Sunamganj, the minister added.
Apart from recruitment through 28th and 29th BCS examinations, the government would soon appoint 4,133 doctors on ad-hoc basis in different hospitals without BCS. The government has already initiated the process and issued notice for ad-hoc recruitment of doctors and nurses for these hospitals, he said.
The minister said the government has no plan to appoint medical officers in the newly established 13,500 community clinics but it would create a new post of Community Health Care Provider (CHCP) there.
He said the CHCPs would be appointed for all community clinics within the next five years.
The minister said the government has no plan to establish nursing institute at upazila level as there are 34 government diploma institutes in the country and 12 more would be opened soon.
