ECNEC okays Tk 5.67b project

The government would upgrade facilities of three local airports, and the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved a project at a cost of Tk 5.67 billion in this regard on Tuesday.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) would implement the project, covering the Shah Makhdum Airport in Rajshahi, Saidpur airport and Jessore airport.
Under the project, the CAAB would upgrade the existing runway and taxi-way, airfield ground lights, and drainage system of the three airports to ensure secured air journey of the passengers. The project is scheduled to be completed by June 2023.
Presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the ECNEC meeting endorsed the project along with three others at a combine cost of Tk 16.68 billion.
After the ECNEC meeting, Planning Secretary Asadul Islam said the government's highest economic policy-making body approved four development projects at a combine cost of Tk 16.68 billion costs.
Of the funds, required for completing the projects, Tk 15.24 billion will come from the government's own exchequer, and the rest Tk 1.43 billion from the implementing agencies' own fund, he told reports.
The other ECNEC-approved projects are: Land acquisition and development at Kadamrasul in Narayanganj City Corporation for waste management project at Tk 3.01 billion, Rural infrastructure development in Madaripur, Shariatpur and Rajbari districts project (1st revised) - extending the cost by Tk 5.09 billion to Tk 20.09 billion, and Irrigation expansion through surface water in greater Dinajpur and Jaipurhat districts project at Tk 2.51 billion.
The ECNEC members, ministers, Planning Commission members and high officials of relevant ministries were present in the meeting.
