Govt to welcome if extremists voluntarily surrender: Tuku
Monday, 31 August 2009
The government will welcome if extremists decide to voluntarily surrender considering peace and interest of the country.
State Minister for Home Affairs Shamsul Haque Tuku said this, while responding to reporters' questions after the inauguration of Chawkbazar Police Station in the city Sunday, reports UNB.
The state minister urged the extremists to quickly give up their violent path and return to normal life and work with the people.
"If they make proposal on their voluntary surrender, we will think of it and take steps in accordance with law", he said in explanation.
Tuku's appeal for surrender came amid sudden rise in unlawful activities by the extremists that witnessed gunning down three people, including an Awami League leader, in Rajbari last week.
The state minister said the law enforcers have been asked to take stern action against the elements disrupting the law and order situation.
