BOGRA: BNP spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Friday alleged that the current ‘illegal and repressive’ government wants to cling to power by holding the nation hostage, according to a news agency. “The dream of the current illegal, repressive and liar government to hang onto power by holding the whole nation hostage won’t come true. We’ll oust it by making a success all the action programmes to be declared by our leader (Khaleda) in the coming days,” he said. Fakhrul, also the acting secretary general, made the remarks while addressing a discussion arranged by the district unit BNP marking the 70th birthday of party chairperson Khaleda Zia. Mentioning that the people of Bogra will lead the oust-government movement, the BNP leader urged people from all strata to join it to save the country and democracy. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had established one-party Baksal rule while in office, he said, adding that his daughter Sheikh Hasina is out with a plan to re-establish the one-party rule in the disguise of democracy after usurping power through a ‘voter-less’ election on January 5. Fakhrul said Awami League, which had earlier joined polls under a non-party government, now does not want to go to polls under it as the party knows it very well that it will not be possible for them to return to power through a fair election.
