Leaders of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) have urged the government to form a new wage board for journalists considering the price hike of essentials.
The leaders were addressing an executive committee meeting in the city Saturday, reports BSS.
The DUJ leaders also showed their gratitude to the information minister for his positive remarks at the parliament in this regard and urged him to take necessary initiatives immediately.
With DUJ President Shah Alamgir in the chair, the meeting also discussed the prevailing situation in the newspaper industry and expressed concern over the sudden closure of the Bangla-daily Amar Desh.
Earlier, at the outset of the meeting the leaders expressed profound shock and sorrows at the deaths of more than 150 people in Neemtali and Begunbari tragedies.
They observed a minute's silence to show respect to the memories of the victims and prayed for peace of the departed souls.
DUJ General Secretary Abu Zafar Surja and the former General Secretary were present, among others, on the occasion.
