Govt urged to formulate time-bound policy

Logistics-sector investors have urged the government to formulate a time-bound policy and assign dedicated authorities for implementing it through coordination with other stakeholders.
They made the call at a discussion on the draft logistics policy, organised by the American Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AmCham) at a city hotel on Tuesday.
The investors also demanded efficient supply-chain management and customs clearances for successful implementation of the policy.
The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) made the draft Logistics Development Policy 2024 public on January 30, 2024 to seek opinions from stakeholders.
Economists and businesses from clearing and forwarding, freight forwarders, transport sector, legal experts and academicians, representatives from development partners took part in the discussion.
They placed their respective proposals for amendment to the draft policy.
The institutional coordination, skilled manpower for logistics sector, enhancing private sector's investment, adopting international best practices and encouraging foreign investment through addressing bottlenecks are among the major aspects need to be prioritised in the policy.
AmCham president Syed Ershad Ahmed moderated the open discussion while founder chairman of the Policy Exchange Bangladesh Dr Masrur Reaz, who was on the drafting committee of the logistics policy, explained the pros and cons of the policy.
