FE Report
The leaders of the Auto Rickshaw - Auto Tempo - Mishuk Vehicle Labour Union Monday urged the government to keep public transports out of the present CNG rationing system.
They said the government's decision to stop supplying of CNG for six hours per day and frequent load-shedding are increasing people's suffering more and more.
The labour union leaders said these at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), in which they also placed a set of programmes to press home their demands.
As part of the programmes, they will observe 10-day protest rally at the city's vehicle stands from October 13 to 23, and then, they will hold a grand rally in the city.
President of the union Mujibur Rahman said the CNG rationing system has made the auto-drivers' life miserable, as they have been suffering financially.
In this situation they are unable to pay their daily payment to the vehicle owners, which causes quarrel between the owners and the drivers. In the long run, a number of the drivers might have to face unemployment.
He said there is no alternative now but to increase production of gas and electricity to solve the existing problems.
General secretary of the organisation Golam Faruq and organising secretary Rafiqul Islam, among others, also spoke at the press conference.
