Govt urged to turn Baliati Palace into museum

MANIKGANJ, Sept 14: Baliati Palace, the most ancient relic of Saturia Upazila under the district, is on the way to extinction due to multifarious problems and corruption.
The landlords of Baliati were divided into five Zaminders. After putting an end to Zamindership system, now the palace on a land of ten acres area, is under the Archaeology Department of the government. During the period of the immediate past caretaker government, a project was taken to turn the palace into a museum. But no progress has been made in this connection.
The visitors to pay bribe to the staff of the Zaiminder palace. At night, the staffs steal the valuables of the palace, it is alleged. The people of the locality have urged the government to formally inaugurate the museum immediately to save the palace and to earn revenue.
