Monday, 17 September 2007

Adviser for Housing and Public Works, Law and Information Mainul Hosein Sunday said the government sincerely wanted to boost the construction sector and the investors should courageously seize this opportunity by pumping investment in this sector, reports BSS.
Mainul was briefing journalists in the conference room of the Housing and Public Works Ministry in the city.
The Adviser said, RAJUK (Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakhhya) had approved 14,287 housing designs out of 16,203 submitted till December 2006 under the Building Construction Code 1996. Of these approved designs, he said, 423 projects were from the developers while the remaining were individual plans.
Besides, 218 building designs were submitted under the new building code, Building Construction Code 2007 and of those, 27 were approved.
The adviser said the un-approved designs were sent back to the planners for making necessary corrections so that those could also be approved after complying with the building code.
"These show that the government is sincere in propelling the construction sector and it wants to accelerate the economic activities in the country," he said adding that increased construction work would help generate income of many segments of workforce including day labourers, suppliers and traders as well.
The government is working to create a business friendly atmosphere in the country so that the trade, commerce and business in the country can run smoothly, Mainul said, for this, the government had assured every stakeholder in the business community of support to run their business fearlessly.
"Businessmen have nothing to worry about as the government from its all levels has assured them of its allout cooperation in providing necessary assistance," the adviser said.
Mainul also said, the government had taken various measures to speed up the growth of the construction sector and as part of it RAJUK introduced a 'one stop service' so that the clients can complete all necessary procedures under one roof.
The government created the scopes for the people to declare their undisclosed assets by paying taxes and these funds could be utilised in many fields including construction sector business, he observed.
The government has taken steps to keep the price levels within the purchasing capacity of the common people by giving subsidy and it is also trying to supply essentials at reasonable prices opening outlets run by Bangladesh Rifles, and through the Open Market Sale (OMS) programme.
In reply to a question, the adviser said, there would be no new list of corruption suspects in the business sector so that the businessmen could run their business without any fear, he added.
Clarifying government's priority drive against corruption in politics, the adviser said, if the politics is free from corruption then the government will also be free from corruption, and if the government is free from corruption then the country will also be free from corruption.
Housing and Public Works secretary ASM Rashidul Hye, among others, was present at the briefing.
