Govt wants to establish poverty-free Bangladesh: Jalil

NAOGAON, Apr 2 (BSS): General Secretary of Awami League (AL) Abdul Jalil, MP, said today the government wants to establish a poverty, terrorism and corruption-free Bangladesh.
He was addressing as the chief guest an old-age allowance distribution programme on the premises of Naogaon Sadar Upazila Parishad. Department of Social Welfare of the Sadar Upazila organised the programme. Md Abu Jubayer Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer, presided over it.
Deputy Commissioner of the district Md Ahasan Habib Talukdar, Additional Super of Police Md Aminul Islam, Sadar Upazila Chairman Abdul Malek, Upazila Vice-Chairman Javed Jahangir Sohel and female Vice-Chairman Parvin Akter addressed the function as special guests.
General Secretary of the district unit of AL Nirmol Krisna Saha, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Welfare Md Mostafizur Rahaman, UP Chairman Advocate Shaheed Hasan Siddique Swapan and UP Chairman Md Atwar Rahman also addressed it.
Tk 8,71,500 were distributed among 581 elderly persons.
Each of the elderly has received Tk 1,500 for last six months.
Journalists urged to refrain from publishing views in name of news Textiles and Jute Minister Abdul Latif Siddique Thursday urged journalists to refrain from publishing views in the name of news, reports BSS.
"There is a huge gap between news and views in journalism and journalists should refrain from giving views in the name of news," he said.
The minister said this while addressing the launching ceremony of REDTIMESBD.COM, an online newspaper, at Jatiya Press Club here as the chief guest.
Latif Siddique said the two-nation theory of Muhammad Ali Zinnah created communal fanaticism in the sub-continent in 1947.
Describing Bangladesh as a religiously moderate country, he said religious extremism has been created across the country after the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975.
General Secretary of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Mujahidul Islam Selim, Managing Director and Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangtha(BSS)Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury and Editor of the Online Newspaper Shoumitra Deb attended the function as special guests with President of Bangladesh Computer Council Mostafa Jabbar in the chair.
Among others, Comrade Saiful Huq of Biplobi Workers Party and Journalist Rezaul Karim Talukder also spoke on the occasion marking the inauguration of the venture.
