Govt wants to raise number of toilets users

Out of $21 billion proposed investment by the Local Government Division, about $5.4 billion is expected to be spent for safe drinking water and sanitation during the first five years (2011-2020) of the 15-year plan. Out of the total investment, about 55 per cent will come from public exchequer while 28 per cent from service charges and the rest will come from the private sector, the non-government organisations (NGOs) and the donors. It is worth mentioning that about 74 per cent people of the country are now under the coverage of safe drinking water. Under the new plan, cent per cent people will come under the network of modern system of safe drinking water supply by the next 15 years. About 86 per cent people of the country have hygienic toilets and only 56 per cent of them are using quality toilets. The government also wants to raise the number to a satisfactory level within the targeted time frame.
