The government is committed to transform Bangladesh into a tech-savvy as well as middle- income country by achieving Vision-2021 to build Bangabandhu's vision of sonar Bangla, State Minister for Science and ICT Architect Yeafesh Osman told the House Thursday, reports BSS.
Responding to a question from lawmaker M Israfil Alam, Yeafesh said the government has already advanced much in doing so. "Bangladesh would have 20,000 MW electricity to be generated by 2021," he said adding that the government has identified the nuclear power production as the alternate source of energy.
He said the Awami League government took the initiative to implement Rooppur Power Plant in 1996-2001. But, he regretted, there was no initiative at all afterwards.
Stressing the need for formation of a separate regulatory body for continuing the power plant activities and quick implementation, he said adequate steps have already been taken to this end.
