Govt working for modernisation of Armed Forces, says PM

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina said the present government is working sincerely for modernisation of the armed forces, reports BSS.
In a message on the eve of the Armed Forces Day, the PM said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had started to build a modern armed forces in the independent Bangladesh.
The armed forces built by him are putting a sign of professionalism and efficiency in their all activities, she added.
With the call of Bangabandhu the entire Bangalee nation joined the War of Liberation in 1971, she pointed out.
During the War of Liberation led by Awami League government on this day in 1971, patriotic people, Muktibahini, the armed forces and different paramilitary forces launched combined attacks against the occupation forces in the War of Liberation, the PM said.
As a result, she said, the final victory was achieved by defeating the occupation forces on December 16 in 1971.
Sheikh Hasina said the Armed Forces Day is being observed every year on November 21 as a memorandum of advancement and victory of Bangalee nation in the War of Liberation.
Members of the armed forces are brightening the image of the country at the international level by performing their duties with sincerity in the United Nations Peacekeeping Missions, she mentioned.
Besides attaining professional skill, the members of the armed forces are always taking part in facing disasters, constructing infrastructures, serving mankind, assisting civil administration and various nation building and pro-people activities, the PM said.
On the occasion of the historic "Armed Forces Day", the Prime Minister conveyed her best wishes and gratitude to all the members of the armed forces and expressed her respects to the great heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country and prayed for eternal peace for their departed souls.
She also wished success of all the programmes taken on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day-2010.
