The government is working very sincerely on release of the detained teachers and students of Dhaka University as fast as possible through a legal process.
"We have got assurance from the government that the jailed teachers and students of DU will soon return to us", DU Vice Chancellor SMA Faiz told this correspondent a few minutes after holding a meeting with a high official of the DGFI (Directorate General of Forces Intelligence) at the university Tuesday.
Acting president of DU Teachers’ Association (DUTA) Tajmery SA Islam and acting general secretary Mamun Ahmed were also present at the meeting lasting one hour and a half.
Faiz said the university authorities are very hopeful about immediate release of the captive teachers as they had a very fruitful discussion in this regard with the DGFI official in the meeting.
The acting DUTA president said they want release of the detained teachers, not agitation.
"We are not thinking of any agitation for the release of the jailed teachers as we are trying to reach an understanding with the government in this regard", Tajmery said.
The way of discussion and understanding may be hampered, if we go for any agitation in lieu of adopting peaceful programmes, she added.
On the other hand, a written statement of the DU white panel teachers signed by its joint convener Aminur Rahman Mojumder expressed surprise over Monday's provocative speech by the blue panel teachers about the release of the detained teachers.
The white panel teachers made a clarion call to all DU teachers and students to keep peace while demanding release of the jailed teachers, as the government is working on it.
