Govt working to develop IT based edn, human resources: PM

Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina Saturday said that the present government was relentlessly working to develop IT-based infrastructure, education, administration, management and human resources through expansion of information technology (IT) to build 'Digital Bangladesh', reports agencies.
In a message on the eve of the World Telecommunications and Information Society Day (WTISD)-2009, she expressed the hope that all irrespective of parties and opinions would discharge their responsibilities from respective positions in implementing the time-befitting theme of the day 'Protecting Children in Cyberspace' and in building Digital Bangladesh.
"I am happy to know that Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has drawn up a two-day programme in Chittagong to observe the day," Sheikh Hasina said.
She welcomed the initiatives for observing the day outside Dhaka for the first time to raise awareness about facilities and benefits of modern telecommunications and IT among the people, especially the youths.
The PM wished the programmes a success.
President Zillur Rahman has also issued message on the occasion, reaffirming the government pledge to digitise Bangladesh for quicker advances.
The President said, "The present government has declared Vision-2021 for building up an information-technology-based digital Bangladesh. I think that observance of the World Telecommunications and Information Society Day will help implement the vision."
The WTISD will be observed today (Sunday) in the country, alongside 189 other member-countries of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), highlighting the new government's recipe for building a digital Bangladesh.
This year's universal theme for the day is 'Protecting Children in Cyberspace', which underlines the need of building awareness against abuse of the information superhighway.
