Govt working to develop Samutang Gasfield

The government is working on a plan to develop the Samutang Gasfield at Khagrachhari, aiming at producing 200-mmcf gas daily. BAPEX, the exploration company of Petrobangla and Bakhrabad Gas Ltd are jointly working on the project. The Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) has already approved the project, taken three decades ago. So long this gasfield remained unattended and unexplored, although it was revealed as a viable gasfield. The successful development of the gasfield will especially help the Chittagong region to take up new economic activities and set up new mills and factories there. — BSS
