FE Online Report | Tuesday, 24 November 2015
Both large and small market players should work together with government support for an inclusive agricultural market development, experts said Tuesday at a seminar.
They also observed that three basic approaches need to be followed by the government in support of inclusive business models.
The observation came at the seminar named “Inclusive Market Development in Agriculture: Concepts, Scopes and Opportunities,” organised by the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies (BIDS) in association with Katalyst, held at the Conference Centre of the Institute (BIDS).
State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Narayon Chandra Chanda spoke as the chief guest while former Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) Dr MA Sattar Mandal as special guest.
BIDS Director General Dr K A S Murshid chaired while Head of Capitalisation, Communication and External Affairs of Katalyst Nasir Uddin Ahmed also addressed the seminar, among others.
BIDS Senior Research Fellow Dr Nazneen Ahmed presented the keynote which focused on concepts of inclusive market development (IMD) and its separation from the conventional concepts of inclusive growth.
The paper spotlighted on the fisheries sector and searched possibilities to promote the IMD in the sector.
Dr Ahmed’s paper, which is a part of a BIDS’s ongoing study, mentioned about three basic approaches those might be followed by the government in support of inclusive business or IMD.
