Goyeshwar cleared

Sunday, 20 April 2014

The High Court has cleared Goyeshwar Chandra Roy of charges of contempt of court after the senior BNP leader apologised for his remark on judiciary. The bench of Justices Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and ABM Altaf Hossain issued the order on Sunday. Roy appeared before the bench and offered apology for his remark about political control over the judiciary. Md Bodruddoza Badal, counsel for the BNP leader, said the court had disposed of the case and let Roy off the charges after he sought forgiveness. At a protest rally organised by the BNP-backed Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB) on April 6, Roy had said: “All courts are now in the pockets of Mujib Coat”. The next day, the HC had summoned the BNP Standing Committee member for the comment. DAB Vice President Prof MA Salam and Secretary General AZM Zahid Hossain accompanied the BNP leader to the court on Sunday. After the apology, the judges dropped the charges against him and let him off, according to bdnews24.com.
