Grameenphone (GP) is offering free facebook browsing for its users from today (Monday) as part of the company's 'internet for all' campaign.
The country's leading cellphone firm announced Sunday the offering at a press briefing in the city.
"From the very middle of the night everybody could browse free facebook having a GP connection using any device like mobile phone or GP-enabled computers," GP's Chief Marketing Officer Allan Bonke said.
Terming the initiative the first in the country, Mr Bonke said facebook is the best platform to exercise social connectivity that will certainly encourage people to use internet.
"GP is approaching the significant milestone of 50 million customers in Bangladesh. In the run-up to this occasion, we want our customers to enjoy free browsing of the most social media platform in the world", he said.
Mr Bonke added that despite the steady growth in data usage, a large part of the country's population is not aware about the practical use of internet.
"We believe there is no reason why anyone who has a voice connection cannot also be connected to the internet. With this campaign, we're taking another step to make it simple and relevant for everyone to go online," Mr Bonke said.
Marketing Commercial Division Director Nehal Ahmed said initially, the customers will enjoy 18 hours free browsing from 12:00am to 6:00pm every day until further notice.
He said no specific registration or installment of software will be required to enjoy the browsing.
