GP pays Tk 1.0b highest monthly income tax to NBR

Grameenphone Limited (GP), country's largest mobile phone company Monday handed over a cheque for Tk 1.0 billion (100 crore) to the chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR) as monthly payment of advance income tax for the fiscal 2008-09.
GP Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer Arif Al Islam handed over the cheque to NBR Chairman Nasir Ahmed at a function in the city Monday, said a press release.
In the fiscal 2008-09, the mobile phone operator has already paid Tk 16.05 billion to the national exchequer as income tax, vat and duty only.
In the last fiscal, the GP was the highest income tax payer and second highest VAT payer of the country.
The company's total contribution to the NBR for the fiscal 2008-09 was Tk 31 billion, inclusion of above mentioned income tax, VAT, duty and all other payments to different government bodies.
Since its inception, GP paid a total of Tk 129.60 billion to the national exchequer as of May 2009.
