GP signs another infrastructure sharing deal with Aktel
Monday, 8 February 2010
Grameenphone Limited (GP) signed another deal with Axiata (Bangladesh) Limited known as Aktel to share their infrastructure for mutual benefit, reports BSS.
The agreement between the two companies was signed Saturday to share their telecom infrastructure mainly to expand rural network.
Earlier on February 1, GP-a leading mobile phone operator, signed a similar agreement with the second largest cell phone operator Banglalink.
The latest agreement with Aktel will cut further the operational cost of GP while Aktel clients will get better services through the GP's nation-wide telecom infrastructure.
Launched in March 1997, Grameenphone is now providing over 20 million (2.0 crore) people across the country with mobile phone and faster internet services.
The company entered the capital market last year, offering the largest ever IPO (initial public offering) of over Tk 4.80 billion (480 crore).
Aktel also commenced its Bangladesh operation in 1997 and expanded its network in 64 districts. But the number of subscribers to the company are still far below the GP and Banglalink.
