GP to introduce BillPay for DESCO subscribers soon

Tuesday, 30 December 2008

All subscribers of Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO) will shortly be able to pay their electric bills either from their Grameenphone (GP) handset or from any GP-authorised BillPay outlets at anytime and from anywhere.
In this connection, an agreement was signed between the two companies to launch the service in the city recently, said a press release.
Earlier this year, GP won the contract through open bid called by the DESCO.
The service aims to remove consumers' hassles associated with standing in long queues, travelling, limited payment hours and various post payment harassment.
The service will be launched shortly for all electricity consumers in the DESCO area. In the initial phase, DESCO consumers will enjoy easy access to BillPay outlets, open at 9am to 10pm everyday, at convenient locations.
Consumers with mobile phones will get an immediate confirmation of bill payment from DESCO when bills are paid correctly.
Customers will also be able to query present and past bill status instantly via SMS or receive assistance from the GP's BillPay helpdesk.
DESCO will enjoy fully automated reconciliation processes, reduced time between bill receipt and posting - resulting in faster available funds as well as improved cash-flows and reduction of manual processing costs and errors.
Among others, General Manager (GM) (S and D Operation) of the DESCO Engr FM Faridul Hogue, GM (Engineering and Systern Control) Engr Md Shahjahan Mia, Deputy General Manager (DGM) (Administration) Engr SM Habibur Rahman and Manager (Procurement and Contract) Khandaker Najibul Alam and Deputy Director and Head of Financial Services of the GP Delwar Hossain Azad, Deputy Chief Information Officer M Lutfor Rahman and General Manager (Marketing) Morshed Alam were present at the agreement signing ceremony.
