The government has introduced a grade-based salary structure for Imams, Muezzins, and Khadims in the mosques while also specifying provisions related to recruitment, leave, housing, and post-retirement benefits under the new Mosque Management Policy 2025, reports bdnews24.com.
In a press statement, the Ministry of Religious Affairs announced that the policy was published on Monday in a supplementary issue of the Bangladesh Gazette. According to the policy, a grade-based pay scale will apply to all mosque personnel except Khatibs.
The salaries of Khatibs will be determined in line with the terms of their contracts. However, financially insolvent, and also Panjegana mosques, (small mosques with only five-time prayer facilities) will have the flexibility to fix salaries and allowances based on their capacity.
As per the new policy, senior Pesh Imams will be paid according to Grade 5 of the National Pay Scale 2015, Pesh Imams at Grade 6, and Imams at Grade 9. At the same time, chief Muazzins will receive the Grade 10 pay, Muazzins Grade 11, chief Khadims Grade 15, and Khadims Grade 16.
The policy also outlines welfare measures for mosque staff. It recommends arranging family housing facilities subject to capacity, introduces provisions for monthly savings to ensure future security, and mentions one-time honorariums upon retirement.
