Graduates asked to be imbued with patriotism

CHITTAGONG, Mar 27: The first convocation of the Southern University Bangladesh was held today at the Institution of Engineers in the city.
Primary and mass education minister Dr Afsarul Ameen conferred the degrees on the graduates as convocation president on behalf of the chancellor of the university and president of Bangladesh Md Zillur Rahman.
Professor emeritus of Chittagong University Jamal Nazrul Islam spoke on the occasion as convocation speaker while vice chancellor of the SUB Professor AJM Nuruddin Chowdhury, foundation chairman of the SUB Alhaj Khalilur Rahman, founder of the SUB Sarwar Jahan and professor Tapan Kumar Mitra among others spoke on the occasion.
Several hundred graduates of different faculties joined the convocation and received degree from the convocation president.
In his convocation address, Dr Afsarul Ameen said that the country needed a qualified manpower to achieve the goal of digital Bangladesh through concerted efforts and leadership of the graduates.
He expressed the hope that the graduates would be imbued with the spirit of patriotism, honesty and sincerity to work for safeguarding the interest of the nation.
Professor Jamal Nazrul Islam said education was a lifelong pursuit that would always demand further enhancement. "A good degree is a basis for strong foundation. What you take away on this occasion is not just a piece of paper, but your four years of hard work, your passport to the future and you as an aware and a responsible citizen," he said.
Professor Nuruddin also reminded the graduates about their responsibilities in the ensuing days emphasising on their need to serve the nation with utmost efficiency, honesty and strong sense of patriotism to materialise the dreams of our people.
