Graft cases: Recording of testimony against Khaleda deferred to Dec 8

Monday, 1 December 2014

A court in the city Monday again deferred until December 8 the recording of statements by prosecution witnesses against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and eight others in the Zia Charitable Trust and Zia Orphanage Trust graft cases.
Judge Basudev Roy of the Special Judge Court-3 passed the order as Khaleda’s lawyers created chaos at the courtroom after the recording of statements of some witnesses.
At the beginning of the day’s proceedings, the judge ordered the deposition although Khaleda Zia’s lawyers filed a petition seeking time.
Later, Khaleda’s lawyers filed another petition to reconsider their prayer and stay the testimony until the High Court passes its order on a review petition filed by Khaleda Zia for changing the court fearing injustice.
Some 30-35 lawyers, including Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokon, AJ Mohammad Ali, Joynul Abedin and Sanaullah Mia, were present at that time, according to a news agency.
