Grameenphone opens fibre link through Jamuna Bridge

Grameenphone Limited opened its fibre-optic cable link through 4.8 kilometre long Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge Tuesday, becoming the first mobile phone operator in the country to do so.
Executive Director of Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge Authority Khan M Ibrahim Hossain and GP Managing Director Erik Aas jointly inaugurated the fibre-optic cable link at a function at Bhuapur in Tangail Tuesday.
Khan M Ibrahim Hossain said: "As a multipurpose bridge, the Jamuna Bridge has been providing for highway traffic, railway link, gas transmission line, power transmission line and BTTB line. Now, with the opening of fibre-optic cable link of Grameenphone, it opens the gateway to the cell phone company to the north and southwest part of the country."
"This fibre-optic link is another milestone for Grameen-phone," said Erik Aas. "It will make the Grameenphone network more robust and dependable and will also help us to further improve network quality and coverage, greatly benefiting the people of Rajshahi, Khulna and Barisal divisions," he added.
