Grameenphone triggers fall in core index

The Dhaka bourse closed the Sunday's session with moderate losses both in turnover and broad index as major sectors lost prices.
Of other major sectors, the telecommunication witnessed the highest price correction of 2.30 per cent mainly because of Grameenphone.
On Sunday, the share price of Grameenphone closed at Tk 351.70 each with a loss of 2.17 per cent or Tk 7.80.
BTRC partially blocked the bandwidth capacity of Grameenphone and Robi for non-payment of dues detected in audits.
On the day, only the mutual fund (MF) sector witnessed price appreciation, while remaining other sectors including the telecommunication and bank lost prices amid investors' 'cautious' stance.
The market opened the session with a negative note and soon later a slight recovery stance was observed for a while.
Later, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) continued the declining trend till closure without any recovery stance.
At the end of the session, the DSE broad index DSEX closed at 5333.08 points with a loss of 0.88 per cent or 47.70 points.
Following investors' selling pressure, most of the listed securities closed in red.
The shariah based index DSES declined 0.96 per cent or 11.93 points to close at 1221.46 points.
The DS30 index comprising blue chip securities declined 1.03 per cent or 19.69 points to close at 1890.38 points.
According to EBL Securities, investors' exerted selling pressure on sector specific large-cap stocks especially on telecommunication, bank and fuel & power sectors.
"Investors remained watchful ahead of upcoming earnings and corporate declarations from listed companies," said the market review of the EBL Securities.
Of total issues traded, 87 advanced, 239 declined and 27 were unchanged on the premier bourse DSE.
The turnover stood at above Tk 4.15 billion which was 14.81 per cent less than the turnover of the previous session.
Of total turnover, Tk 52.57 million came from transactions executed in block board.
Of other major sectors which lost prices, bank declined 1.0 per cent, engineering 0.8 per cent, financial institutions 1.20 per cent, pharmaceuticals & chemicals 0.4 per cent, and textile 1.0 per cent.
On Sunday, all indices also declined on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) following the price corrections witnessed by major sectors.
The benchmark index CASPI closed at 16333.01 points with a loss of 0.82 per cent or 136.36 points.
Of 265 issues traded, 78 advanced, 162 declined and 25 were unchanged.
The turnover stood at above Tk 181.97 million on the port city bourse CSE.
