Grandparent poultry farm in Panchagorh closed

NILPHAMARI, July 19: First grandparent poultry farm in Panchagorh district has been declared closed due to ownership conflict.

Established in 2005 with an aim to reduce import dependence on broiler breeder parent stocks by 20 per cent Bangladesh's first grandparent poultry farm at Majhipara in Tetulia upazila is locked in a quarrel between two persons regarding its ownership.

The farm, named, Acqua Breeder Ltd., set up on 180 bighas of land aimed to produce and market 1000 pieces of one-day broiler breeder parents daily.

One expatriate Bangladeshi, Gazi Shahadat Hossain, established the farm to meet 20 per cent of the country's total demand of parent stock.

The farm was set up with the financial support of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank's Tetulia branch. Sources said the farm incurred loss of Tk 16 million due to the last bird flu epidemic subsequently Gazi Shahadat Hossain appointed Enamul Hoque of S.A. Industries and Trade International of Joypurhat as administrator.

The quarrel started since then between these two persons and that culminated in the closure of the farm.
