Greed, dowry and education
Wednesday, 2 September 2009
A man allegedly killed his wife for dowry. If they were just told this, many would decide the man was half educated and from a lower echelon of society and the woman in such a level of society probably having no support anyway. Not so in this instance. The man is a doctor but then so was the victim -- his wife. Dr. Tamanna Haque Sonia was 28 years old when she met her end.
It has been alleged that Sonia's husband Dr. Fakhrul Islam, a physician of Medicine Department of Mitford Hospital along with his father and mother murdered Sonia (Dr. Tamanna) and then hanged her body perhaps to make it look like a case of suicide.
The couple has an eighteen month-old baby. Dr. Fakhrul Islam has since gone into hiding.
It has also been alleged that the in-laws of Sonia had been demanding a flat from Sonia's parents and to get it had been torturing her physically and mentally since her marriage in 2007.
Greed is alive and well in all strata of society and so is murderous instinct. What were the murderers of Dr. Sonia thinking? That they would eventually get away with murder? That somehow after her death they would get rich by having Dr. Islam marry again and find another victim to get money out of? What? And how much money is enough? If the in-laws of Sonia wanted a flat, how long did they think they would live in that flat? A hundred years? And what would happen when the infant child grows up? What kind of psychological effect would it leave on the person? Can people be so low?
