Greek finmin meets banking chiefs

ATHENS, Oct 6 (AFP): Greek Finance Minister Evangelos Venizelos met top bankers after German Chancellor Angela Merkel suggested a possible revision of the July 21 eurozone rescue plan for Greece, a source at his ministry said Thursday.
Venizelos met with the governor of the Bank of Greece and the president of the union of Greek banks late Wednesday, said the source.
On Wednesday, Merkel again raised the question of banks taking a greater share of the burden in the second aid plan for Greece agreed by eurozone leaders in July.
"At the present time we have to see if the current economic data from Greece are still adapted to the (July) decision," she said.
"If necessary there will have to be an adjustment," she added.
In the plan, the banks have already agreed to an average 21-per cent discount on the Greek bonds they hold.
That figure could be revised upwards given Greece's admission Monday that it had failed to meet its deficit reduction targets this year and next, putting even more pressure on the eurozone.
