Green City to be constructed at Ishwardi

The government is going to construct a green city at Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant at Ishwardi for accommodation of project scientists and officials.
An official familiar to the process told BSS that the township, on 31.58 acres of land acquired by the government in Nutunhat area adjacent to the main project of the plant, would be the home to over 2,000 people.
An inter-ministerial meeting in this respect was held at the project side today with secretary of the ministry of science and technology Dr Sirajul Islam Khan in the chair.
Atomstroyexport of Russian Federation officials and representatives of different ministries including home, housing and public works were present.
Besides, initiative has taken to construct an office of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission here. Atomstroyexport would construct the green city where working Russian scientists as well as officials will reside.
After completion of the project, the official said, Russian authority would hand over the city to Bangladesh authority.
Talking to reporters about progress of the works, Dr Sirajul Islam Khan said, considering all factors including all incidents in the past, construction work of the Nuclear Power Plant having 1200-2000 megawatt capacity is going on full swing. He also expressed the hope that the works would be completed within the stipulated time.
The secretary said all facilities would be kept in the plant to face any risks. Besides, Khan said, the government has already taken a plan to construct another Nuclear Power Plant in the southern region of the country.
Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission member Engineer Monjurul Haq, Rooppur Power Plant project director Dr Shawkat Hossain and Pavel Gentosave, representative of Russian authority, were present, among others, in the meeting.
