Green Delta Ins honours book lover Polan Sarkar

In the continuing step for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Green Delta Insurance Company Limited (GDICL) honoured renowned book lover Polan Sarkar of Rajshahi.
GDICL Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nasir A Chowdhury handed over more than 300 books to him at a function at the company's head office in the city Thursday.
Elderly Polan Sarkar, 86 years old, of the bausa village in Rajshahi walks through villages, hand out books to villagers, shopkeepers and housewives for extolling the merits of reading. His passion for books and his dismay at the low literacy rate in the country, spurred him to set up what is essentially a library for the poor.
"I had dropped out from school at the very early stage due to economic hardship of my family. So my mission is to enlighten others," Polan said when he was receiving the books. "My habit of reading will never die," he added.
Among others, GDICL Company Secretary Zahrul Syed Bakth, Executive Director Nazim Tazik Chowdhury, Head of HR and Admin Syed Kaiser Ahmed, Executive Vice President Md TH Forhad, Vice President Mahbub Ara, Senior Trainee Executive Nusrat Jahan and Polan Sarker's son were also present on the occasion.
