Group insurance made mandatory in RMG units

CHITTAGONG, June 25: For the welfare of workers in the ready made garment (RMG) industries, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has made group insurance scheme mandatory in all RMG units.

In case of accidental or natural death of any garment worker during his or her service, nominee of the dead worker would get Taka 0.1 million under group insurance scheme.

This was stated by First Vice President of BGMEA M A Salam while group insurance claim cheques were distributed among the nominees of the workers of different RMG units located in Chittagong, who had died during the period of their service, in a function held at BGMEA regional office in the city recently.

Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner M Akbar Ali who was present in the function as the chief guest highly praised the BGMEA for its welfare activities including the group insurance scheme for the dead workers.

The function was attended, among others, by BGMEA directors Ershadullah, Md Ferdous, Mohiuddin Chowdhury, Mainuddin Ahmad Mintu, Abu Tayab and a large number of RMG owners.
