FE Special
IN order that we want to acquire mastery of any course, we can apply various strategies -reading the course, writing on various issues from the course, listening to teachers and fellow students about various chapters from the book, and also speaking to others on the course. Usually reading, writing and listening are practised by the students, but they probably feel the less urge to speak on the course. In reality, speaking, that is leading discussions and being speaker on various issues related to texts can be very helpful depending on the subject, for example English literature, history, science, sociology etc.
I assume you often study in a group. If you have the target in mind to lead the discussion or be the main speaker, you are thinking in a very positive manner. The more you can lead the discussion and be the main speaker, the more you will feel the need to study intensively about the subject. You will always want to be a better speaker in the next sessions, so you will feel like studying more. Such a tendency will surely motivate you to concentrate better and inspire you to spend more time in your studies.
When you can say about the lessons, it is for sure you have better idea about the chapter and this confidence will put you in advantageous position-you will also do good in viva voce which is usually held at the end of the semester or academic year. It has been seen that many students have good understanding of the texts but cannot answer properly in the viva. One of the main reasons for their such lacking is that they have not practised speaking on the issues during the semester. The habit of speaking on the course is very helpful to do good in the viva.
When you will be playing the role of a speaker on various courses in the group discussions, you will also face questions from your fellow classmates. Sometimes you will be able to answer them in a mature way, sometimes you will not be that satisfied. When you will not be satisfied, you will always think of consulting texts/reference materials/teachers or even thinking deeply on the issue. Doing anything of these will be of help for you.
When you will be a good speaker on a subject, you will feel very confident about the subject. This confidence will help you perform good both in written and VIVA tests.
Being a speaker will also help you be a master of the subject. You will remember the issues for many years, may be your whole life. What can be more enjoying than that?
