Growing the habit of planting trees
Tuesday, 23 August 2022
Trees are the source of much-needed oxygen. Trees provide food for humans and improve air quality, preserve soil and conserve water. The benefits of trees are enormous and it hardly needsfurtherexplaining. However, there is a practice of destroying trees in the country. People seem to forget that trees are an essential part of the community. That's why small streets, parks, playgrounds and backyards are lined with trees and greeneries. Gathering under the cool shade of trees is a rarity in most cities.
Thus, it is high time to encourage people to plant trees. A positive trend is that many people have started rooftop gardening. Some are using the small balconies of their apartment building for growing trees. The authorities should actively plant more trees at the homesteads and open spaces. Students in schools and colleges should be encouraged to plant trees and do gardening. Compounds of the educational institutions should be properly utilised for tree plantation. Without planting and caring for trees regularly, it will not be possible to protect the environment from its degradation.
