Guidelines for cellphone tower demanded

Speakers at a human chain on Saturday demanded formulation of guidelines for the installation of network tower of the cellular phone operators to protect the human life and biodiversity from radiation. They said the radiation, emitted from the tower of cellular phone operators which is 7 times more than the tolerable limit, is responsible for different kinds of health hazards and diseases such as cancer, brain tumor etc. Coalition of Local NGOs, Bangladesh (CLNB) organised the human chain in front of the National Press Club. Sangjukta Sramik Federation General Secretary Mokaddem Hossain, former member of the parliament Professor Humayun Kabir Hiru, BAPA joint-secretary general Mihir Bishwas, labour leader Harunur Rashid, Sahida Sarker, human rights activists Adv Zakir Hossain and Adv Babul Khan, among others, spoke on the occasion with CLNB chairman Harun ur Rashid in the chair. They demanded of identifying Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) quickly. Besides, they also suggested making the No Objection Certificate mandatory for the installation of the tower along with the use of neutralizer, according to BSS.
