‘Gunfight’ with criminals kills DB inspector

An inspector of Detective Branch of police was killed in a reported gunfight with criminals at Middle Pirerbagh in the capital's Mirpur area on early Tuesday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Md Jalaluddin, inspector of Detective Branch of police.
A source of DB police said tipped-off that a gang of criminals is gathering firearms, a team of DB's Pallabi Zone conducted a drive in a three-storey building in the area around 10:30pm on Monday.
At one stage of drive, criminals opened fire targeting the detectives, prompted them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight, leaving Md Jalaluddin injured with bullet on his head, said Proloy Kumar Joarder, deputy commissioner of special action group of Counter Terrorism Unit.
The injured was taken to the Square Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 2.0 am.
Criminals fled away through the backside of the building. However, law enforcers detained four people from the house for interrogation. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Miah visited the spot around 1.0 am
While talking to reporters, he said it is not clear whether the house is a 'militant hideout' or people lived in here are criminals.
