‘Gunfights’ kill two in Netrakona, Feni

NETRAKONA, Jan 01 (UNB): An alleged robber and a drug peddler were killed during a gunfight with the law enforcers in two districts on Monday.
In Netrokona, an alleged robber was killed during a gunfight with the law enforcers in Mohanganj of the district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Lutfar Rahman alias Ripul (40), son of late Abdul Motaleb Mia of Chanpur village of Mohanganj upazila.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohanganj Thana Ansari Jinnat Ali said Ripul was arrested on Sunday afternoon and they launched a drive at night with Ripul at Noapara to recover the illegal arms.
During the drive, Ripul's accomplices fired gunshots on police while police also retaliated, triggering the gunfight.
Ripul sustained bullet wound during the exchange of fire and was rushed to Mohanganj Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
The body was sent to Netrokona General Hospital for autopsy.
In Feni, an alleged drug peddler was killed in a 'gunfight' between his associates and members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Dharmapur village in Sadar upazila on Monday.
Deceased Anwar Hossain Raju (25) was accused in 10 cases, including rape, drug, arms and robbery, filed with Feni Model Thana.
RAB-7 Feni camp in-charge squadron leader Safayat Jamil said tipped-off, a team of RAB went to the area to thwart drug smuggling.
Sensing presence of RAB members, drug smugglers opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight that left Raju injured.
