Hadi still in critical condition: Doctor
FE REPORT | Sunday, 14 December 2025
Doctors said on Saturday the condition of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi remained critical due to the severe brain injury he suffered in the shooting by assailants in the city on Friday.
Director (media services) at Evercare Hospital Bangladesh Dr Arif Mahmud said that the condition of Hadi remained critical due to the severe brain injury.
He said that Hadi's prognosis couldn't be determined until 72 hours passed.
"His brain injury is very bad; nothing can be said until 72 hours pass. His heart is working... but the brain is very bad. Nothing can be said in one word right now," he said, adding that the waiting period could be indefinite.
"Hadi's eyes are fixed due to the injury to the brain stem, but the good news is his other organs are still functioning," he continued.
According to police and witnesses, the shooting took place around 2:20pm in front of DR Tower on Box Culvert Road while Hadi was travelling by a rickshaw.
He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 3pm, where he underwent emergency brain surgery.
Doctors later described his condition as critical and transferred him to Evercare Hospital for advanced treatment.
Doctors at DMCH earlier said Hadi suffered heavy bleeding from the nose and throat later in the evening, which was brought under control.
They also said his skull was opened on the left side due to severe brain damage, and steps were taken to reduce intracranial pressure.
DMCH head of neurosurgery Dr Zahid Raihan said on Friday that the bullet entered Hadi's head above left ear and exited through the right side, causing massive brain injury.
He said the bullet's trajectory affected the brain stem and that Hadi was still not completely unresponsive, but his condition remained extremely critical.
The shooting, just a day after the schedule for the 13th national election was announced, triggered widespread condemnation and heightened concerns over law and order.
