Hafiz for holding polls in shortest possible time

Working with AL simply ridiculous: Moin Khan

FE REPORT | Tuesday, 12 November 2024

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member Maj (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has called upon the interim government to arrange the next general election within the shortest possible time.
"The key task of this government is to hold a general election and hand over power to an elected government. We call upon this government to hold the polls within the shortest possible time."
The elected representatives would complete the task of state reforms after the election, added Mr Hafiz.
He made the observations at a discussion styled 'The Aspiration of November 07 and the Present Political Reality' at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Monday.
"It seems that anti-discrimination leaders don't believe in building a democratic society. They think the country will be on the right track by taking out some processions (on streets)..."
"The last 16 years marked Awami League's misrule. The task of that party's leader was to profusely praise Sheikh Mujib and his family members, looting public money and siphoning off money abroad," continued the BNP leader.
"We see that anybody who goes to Lanka becomes Rabon. They want to stay in power for a long time," he alleged, saying that some Awami-minded and -oriented persons have been appointed as advisers of this government.
"We consider students our children. But when we see their activities, it seems that they have liberated the country alone. Several leaders and activists of BNP and other parties also sacrificed their lives (during the anti-Hasina movement," maintained Mr Hafiz.
Meanwhile, BNP standing committee member Dr Abdul Moin Khan at a separate event the same day said working jointly with the Awami League was simply a laughing matter.
He said this to the media after inaugurating a programme for the rehabilitation of the students injured during the July-August student-mass movement at the National Institute of Ophthalmology and Hospital in the capital.
The Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) organised the event.
"We should remain vigilant so that the Awami League can't stage a comeback to the country's political landscape," said Dr Moin.
DAB's chief adviser Dr Harun Al Rashid, also BNP chairperson's adviser, and DAB secretary general Dr Md Abdus Salam, among others, were present.
