Hailstorm lashes city

The capital experienced hailstorm accompanied by gusty wind and rain on Wednesday.
The hailstorm along with gusty wind started at around 3:00 pm and continued for round 15-20 minutes. One mm rain was recorded before it stopped at around 3:30 pm.
The rain and hailstorm provided some respite to the city dwellers amid a sweltering weather. But many of them suffer also, as the makeshift shop owners were compelled to shutdown their businesses. The pedestrians, facing inconvenience, took shelter at nearby sheds, markets and shopping malls.
The storm was experienced in Kamalapur, Motijheel, Badda, Shahbag, Karwan Bazar, Khilgaon, Malibag, Rampura, Mogbazar, Dhanmondi and other areas of the capital, according to Dhaka met office.
Sudden rise in summer heat and humidity caused the hailstorm, it said.
The met office also predicted that there might be excessive rain, cyclone and depression in the Bay of Bengal in the coming days. Rain with thundershower and gusty wind might take place in Rangpur, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions.
The country usually experiences storm and other such natural calamities during the Bangla month of Boishakh.
