Hajj flight takes off

The first Hajj flight of 2014 Hajj season left Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport in Kurmitola in Dhaka for Jeddah in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday morning. A special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines took off around 7:15am with 419 Hajj pilgrims on board. Biman, the national flag carrier, will carry 49,378 Hajj pilgrims out of 98,757 from August 27 to September 28 with 270 flights including 224 edicated flights and 46 scheduled flights. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated this year’s Hajj programme at Hajj Camp in Ashkona near Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport on Tuesday afternoon. Biman has fixed its fare at USD 1,500 for each Hajj pilgrim from Dhaka-Jeddah-Dhaka for economy class, while USD 2,500 for business class. The return Hajj flights will begin on October 8 and continue till November 8, according to a news agency.
