Half-day hartal ends in Meherpur

A half-day hartal, called by the local unit of Jamaat-e-Islami in Meherpur district protesting the killing of its leader Tarique Mohammad Saiful Islam, ended without any incident of violence on Wednesday. No long-route buses entered or left the district town from 6:00am to 12:00pm while vehicular movement in the town streets was normal as well. Besides, the business establishments remained partly open. Tarique Mohammad Saiful Islam, assistant secretary of Meherpur district unit Jamaat, was killed in a shootout in Shashan ghat area of Sadar upazila on Monday, according to UNB.
