Halim leads offers for Jimah Power Plant in Malaysia

Monday, 14 December 2009

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 (Bloomberg): Malaysian businessman Halim Saad is leading a group of investors bidding for a power plant owned by Jimah Energy Ventures, the Edge newspaper reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
Halim and his associates offered more than 700 million ringgit ($206 million) for the concession company, trumping rivals that include MMC Corp, the newspaper said. Jimah is among more than 15 so-called independent power producers that won government licenses after a nationwide blackout in 1992.
Malakoff Bhd, a unit of investment holding company MMC, on Dec 2 denied a newspaper report it was interested in Jimah.
