Halliburton to help resolve drilling snag in two gas wells

State-run Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Ltd (Bapex) will hire US-based Halliburton as a service contractor to resolve drilling snags in two onshore gas wells, said officials.
The Bapex board of directors approved appointment of the US firm for doing the job at a cost of around Tk 120 million early this month, said a senior Bapex official.
Halliburton, a leading oil field service company in the world, will bring in 'directional drilling equipment' for side-tracking in drilling of Salda-4 well and Mobarakpur-1 gas wells owned by the Bapex.
Two drilling rigs of the Bapex are now stuck there after drilling some 2,700 metres at Salda-4 well and around 4,300 metres at Mobarakpur-1 well.
The rigs lost the casing resulting in halting of drilling in both these wells.
The Bapex started drilling these wells in July last year, said the official.
He said Halliburton is going to be appointed as a foreign service contractor for the Bapex after several years of 'pause.'
It had been appointing foreign service contractors to help its drilling jobs for many years in the past.
But the state-run firm started performing on its own avoiding job of foreign service contractors several years ago after purchasing new drilling rigs and a set of 'directional drilling equipment,' said the official.
