Monday, 18 August 2014

President Abdul Hamid arrived in London on Sunday night (UK local time) on an 8-day visit to the United Kingdom. A regular flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the President landed at the runway of London’s Heathrow Airport at 8pm GMT (Greenwich meantime). Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK Mijarul Quayes received the President at the airport. During the long journey, the President entered all the cabins to the pleasant surprise of the Biman passengers. He exchanged pleasantries with them and enquired about their wellbeing. Earlier, he left Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport for Britain on Sunday afternoon for eye treatment and health check-up. President Hamid, 70, has been suffering from glaucoma for a long time. While he was the Speaker in the ninth Jatiya Sangsad (parliament), Hamid regularly travelled to Singapore for treatment. He also received treatment in Singapore after he took over as president of Bangladesh in April 2013. He last went to Singapore in April this year. He is expected to leave London for home on Aug 25, according to a news agency.
