President Abdul Hamid has underscored the need for establishing direct road and rail communications China’s Kunming. The President said this when visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban. During the meeting, President Hamid also appreciated the proactive role of China in advancing the Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar (BCIM) initiative for the BCIM Economic Corridor. He said that Bangladesh would welcome massive Chinese investment which will significantly help reduce the trade gap. He hoped that the Chinese government would encourage more and more entrepreneurs from China to invest in labour intensive service industries in Bangladesh and to relocate some of the sunset industries to the proposed Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone in Bangladesh in view of the rising labour cost in China. Expressing keen interest of extending cooperation to Bangladesh for its economic development, Wang Yi said, ‘We have to build closer and comprehensive partnership for economic cooperation,’ according to a news agency.
