GOPALGANJ, Dec 14: About 3000 families of the district engaged in handicrafts industry have been leading a happy life as they are no more facing shortage of capital to run their profession.
At present a number of NGO are giving them small loans. They produce different types of handicrafts and sell them in the markets.
In the past days they faced trouble in carrying commodities to the markets. Now there is no such problem as the village roads are fit for transportation.
Demand for bamboo made products in the harvesting season has increased to a great extent.
The large marketing points of the bamboo products are Sadar, Kotalipara and Tungipara Upazilas of Gopalganj. These markets sit for two days a week during which customers come to purchase these items.
It is learnt that female artisans are more proficient than the males in this profession. The females make bamboo products in the house or house premises. The males collect raw materials and sell the products in the markets.
